Ironstone - Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint

from 6.00

Ironstone is the closest to a pure white currently in the line. It is named after Marian’s favourite thing to collect, white ironstone china. This colour is a slightly cooler off-white and pulls a little gray. If you want white, this is your colour. Obviously, white pairs well with everything!

$6 for a 30 gram tester size. Coverage is 8-10 ft²  (a side table, several mirror frames or a small chair).

$25 for a 230 gram (8 oz) package. This will mix about .94 liter (1 quart) of paint and will cover 70-75 ft² (a dresser and a side table).

When painting over a previously painted or finished piece, it is recommended that you add Bonding Agent to the 1st coat of paint for better adhesion.

product description

Miss Mustard Seed milk paints are organic, biodegradable and zero VOC.

Forget the idea that milk paint should only be used to achieve the “primitive look.” This paint has been given a facelift with new color options and fresh ideas on using it to fit your style. These are just a few of the ways milk paint can be used:

- use it on porous surfaces to create a finish that doesn’t chip or flake with time

- increase the ratio of water to paint to create a coloured stain or wash

- add the bonding agent when painting non-porous surfaces to increase adhesion

Mix 1 part water to 1 part milk paint powder. Mix for 1-3 minutes until water is absorbed into the powder and the mixture is relatively smooth. Water to powder ratio may be adjusted to achieve desired consistency. Test your consistency on a spare piece of wood. Your mixture should provide good one coat coverage. If your mixture is too thin it will be more transparent and stain like. Add more powder to thicken and stir again. Excess can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. Stir frequently while using, as the pigments will settle to the bottom of the container. Typically 1-2 coats is required. Allow 30 minutes drying time between coats. Finish with Miss Mustard Seed’s furniture wax, hemp oil or tung oil.
