I wish I always had two of everything to paint because this is my all-time favorite before and after shot!
As many of you know, I have some renovations going on in my shop and have been very busy with that project. I was having painting withdrawals and decided to take a little time to paint. I couldn't wait to try some of the Homestead House milk paint colours! This is rideau blue. Lovely colour isn't it?
The table had a very high gloss finish to start, so I decided to give it a light sanding to add some tooth to it. I chose not to use any bonding agent. Along the edges I used Miss Mustard Seed's wax puck so that I could distress it easily once painted.
I was hoping the table would chip a little more, but it is what it is. Sometimes you just have to make a choice and go with whatever results you get.
I finished off the table using Miss Mustard Seed's hemp oil. At this time of the year many of you choose to paint indoors and if you want to sand dust-free I suggest you try out the wet sanding technique with hemp oil. Miss Mustard Seed has a wonderful video about it. It is titled "applying all natural hemp oil".
Note: I don't really choose to paint inside this time of year, but painting in the snow is not a great option. Grrr. Or perhaps I should say brrr!
Are you wondering what's up with the old tiny drawers? I stumbled across them and had to buy them because I think they are adorable! I will be painting them for my shop because they are great to display products in and to showcase paint colours.
I dreamt that I scored about 100 of them and was able to paint them all in different colours. But then I woke up and was disappointed. I only have five so far, but I am hoping to score more!
I think little painted drawers would look wonderful all over my house. It's a great way to keep things tidy and organized. I have old dresser drawers under my bed for extra storage and I am thinking one day I will paint them. Ya, I'll just add that to my to-do list.
The one I have painted is done with Homestead House in bedford. This time I just painted with no sanding or bonding agent and I love the chippy look.
I have to be honest here. I not quite sure that I am in love with this handle, but it was already on the table so I decided to go with it. The gold was way too bright for my liking, so I used Fusion gilding paste in white zinc to tone it down a little. I applied it with my fingers. Yup, I sure did.
Update: Fusion gilding paste is no longer available.
And this is the bottle. Hmm. I can't think of anything else to say about this photo. Although cute, it is not nearly as cute as my little drawers. Don't you agree?
